July 6, 2017 - Pembroke, Ontario - The Pembroke Lumber Kings have prepared for an exciting 2017/2018 season with several new and improved programs in place to enhance the overall fan, sponsor and community experience. Coaching staff, front office and production crew are looking forward to seeing the community out and enjoying Jr A Hockey on home ice starting Sunday, September 17th with the home opener.

“In appreciation for the overwhelming community support, our returning sponsors and loyal supporters, and our many new business partnerships, we are thrilled to offer a fresh fan experience throughout the building”, announced Dale McTavish, owner and head coach.

“For the families in our community we reduced family ticket pricing for both game day and season ticket holders, along with an economy Family Food Pack at the canteen. We invite the kids to join the latest Kings Kids Club. Membership is free, and entitles you to discounts and special events” said McTavish.

“With focus on the family, the Pembroke Lumber Kings is introducing the Kings Courtyard on the Concourse. “We are pleased to introduce two special areas in the PMC this season” commented Sandra Fraser, Corporate Partnership and Marketing Liaison with the Pembroke Lumber Kings this year. “Fans will appreciate the Canadian Tire Red Zone Fan Seating Section. Canadian Tire Pembroke, as one of our premium partners, is positioned front and centre with bench seating logo, and identification from top to bottom. This is an area for groups and enthusiast fans to hoot, holler, whistle and cheer on the Kings”.

Fraser is also excited to announce the creation of the V.I.P. Lounge for sponsors, partners and long term team supporters. “Recognizing the importance of improving benefits and value to our expanding sponsor base, it is imperative to develop and utilize this area of the PMC. The VIP Goal Zone will provide an opportunity for young professionals, business owners and sponsors to network; come out to a game for a bite and a chance to meet with old and new friends”.

Lumber Kings Start 2017-18 Season Labour Day Weekend-Home Opener on September 17 at PMC

(Pembroke, June 29, 2017)  The Pembroke Lumber Kings will look to rebound from a disappointing season when they start their 2017-18 season with team owner Dale McTavish back behind the bench of the Central Canada Hockey League’s most successful franchise.  The Lumber Kings will kick off their season on Saturday, September 2nd versus the Cumberland Grads, the first of three games in three days at the league’s annual Showcase event in Ottawa.  Pembroke will also play Rockland and Hawkesbury on the opening weekend.

The Kings will stay on the road for three more games before playing their home opener on Sunday, September 17th against the Brockville Braves.  The Kings will play 29 home games at the Pembroke Memorial Centre including four Sunday afternoon games, four Friday night games, one Saturday night game on Thanksgiving weekend and the traditional school day game on Friday, October 19th at 11 a.m.  Both the Thanksgiving and school day games will be against the four-time defending league champion, Carleton Place Canadians.

The Lumber Kings will close out their 62-game schedule at home against the Rockland Nationals, on Sunday, March 11th.  Rockland is re-joining the league after a long absence as a result of the re-location of the Gloucester Ranger franchise. Rockland and Pembroke are the only two CCHL franchises that have won a national junior A championship.  The Nationals did it in 1976 and the Lumber Kings won the RBC Cup in 2011.

The Lumber Kings will have several players returning from last year’s team including all-star defenceman Patrick Kyte, forwards Matt Barnaby, Brendan Browne and goaltender Jake Smith. They have also signed the son of Lumber Kings scoring legend Peter White to a junior B card with the new Whitewater Kings of the CCHL2. Peter White Junior will be eligible to play a minimum of ten games with the Lumber Kings this season.

“We expect to have a much more skilled hockey club this season,” says McTavish who is excited about having a Junior B team affiliated with the Lumber Kings in Cobden.  “Having the Whitewater Kings will make it much easier to transition players to the Junior A level.  It will provide more depth in our organization and make it much easier to track the progress of our players who are playing on our U-18 and junior B clubs,” adds McTavish.

The Whitewater Kings will kick off their inaugural season in Cobden on Saturday, September 16th versus the Renfrew Timberwolves. Some of the players on the Junior B club will practice with the Lumber Kings on a regular basis, starting with the Lumber Kings  training camp which opens on August 13th at the Pembroke and Area Community Centre.

The Lumber Kings will play five exhibition games beginning with a Sunday, August 20th evening tilt with the Nepean Raiders. The Kings will host Smiths Falls on Thursday, August 24th and Carleton Place on Sunday, August 27th before starting their regular season.

Season tickets remain on sale for the 2017-18 season for the CCHL’s most storied franchise. The Lumber Kings have won more league championship than any other club and are recognized as one of the most successful Junior A hockey clubs in the country.

PLK Alum Shining Brightly

PLK Alum Jim Montgomery recently grabbed the hockey spotlight, capturing the NCAA championship title coaching his University of Denver squad to a national collegiate championship.   A Montreal native, Montgomery played with the Kings in the late eighties and his prolific scoring with Pembroke was a main reason the team enjoyed immense success.  Along with PLK teammate Brian Downey, Montgomery went on from Pembroke to the University of Maine where again, great success followed the dynamic duo.  After Maine, Montgomery played pro hockey for well over a decade, spending time with both the Philadelphia Flyers and the Montreal Canadiens. After playing, championships continued to follow Montgomery, as he captured USHL titles twice with Dubuque as a head coach.  Now, with the University of Denver, he continues to shine, recently knocking off College hockey icons Minnesota Duluth to claim the prestigious NCAA title as a head coach with the Denver Pioneers.

Congratulations to Jim Montgomery on this outstanding achievement from the entire Lumber Kings' organization.  As an interesting piece of irony to Montgomery's recent championship, it is of note to acknowledge one of his players specifically, Jarid Lukosevicius, who scored a hat trick to lead his Denver squad to victory.  His hat trick was the first in an NCAA final since 1993, when coach Montgomery did the deed leading his Maine squad to the title!  Montgomery is only the fourth man in history to win this title as a player and a coach.  Keep up the great work, Jim!

Kings Add Young Talent through Draft

The Pembroke Lumber Kings participated in the CCHL draft on Monday April 10th and added a group of very talented individuals that will help ensure the organization has a bright future. The Lumber Kings would like to congratulate and welcome the following players into the PLK family.  First round pick for the PLK was Tyson Tomasini, a Cobden native who played centre for the Ottawa ValleyTitians bantam squad last season. Kanata native right winger Liam Doyle was selected second out of the Ottawa Senators bantam organization, followed by three Kings' picks in a row, again, coming from the Ottawa Valley Titans organization.  In the 4th round, the PLK acqiuired Carp native, defenceman Jacob Duhn,  and then the the Kings grabbed a pair of Pembroke natives playing for the Titans selecting Zach Martin, a forward, in the fifth round, followed by defenceman Sean Tallon in the sixth slot.  The PLK continued their focus on local talent and selected another Pembroke native, Connor Peplinskie, in the seventh round out of the Ottawa Valley Aces AA program.  Peplinskie's team mates were selected in the 8th, 9th and 10th rounds respectively, as the PLK picked Brendan Dellaire, a forward from Ottawa, Brayden Schimmens, a Pembroke forward next, then forward Liam Serviss from Westmeath.  With their 11th and final pick, the PLK selected forward Sean James from Almonte, who played with the Ottawa Silver 7 last season.  As all these boys are at the very early stages in their hockey journey, we are pleased to be able to welcome them aboard and look forward to seeing what type of impact these players can make upon the Lumber King organization in the future.

McTavish Back Behind Bench

Dale McTavish, Owner and President of the Pembroke Lumber Kings, is back as the Head Coach.  After missing the playoffs this past season, McTavish certianly takes some responsibility for the team's lack of success.  He is looking forward to being back on the front lines with the players where he feels most comfortable and confident.  With this change, Sean Crozier was offered an alternate position within the organization, which he declined. The Lumber Kings thank Sean for his years of service to the organization as an Assistant Coach, Assistant General Manager and Head Coach.  The Kings wish him all the best with his future endeavours.
